Professor Dan Banik Visited LEPP and Held an Academic Lecture

 

On November 30, Professor Dan Banik, the economist of World Bank, consultant of Norges Bank, director of the environment and development centre of the University of Oslo, and Fulbright scholar of Stanford University, visited the Centre for Labor Economics & Public Policy Studies of Zhejiang University, and held a lecture of Business Ethics and the Promotion of Sustainable Development for Poverty Reduction. The lecture was host by Professor Yao Xianguo, the dean of the College of Public Administration and director of LEPP, accompanied by other professors and postgraduates.
Professor Banik first introduced the distribution of world poverty and the poverty reduction effect with the development of economy, and pointed that the world was at a crossing, faced with a variety of challenges. Under such background, corporate social responsibility became more and more severe. Then Professor Banik detailed the characteristics of the Nordic model, as well as how the government regulation, social philosophy affected the business activities of enterprises under the model, leading them to be the representatives of CSR. After that, Professor Banik compared the five Nordic countries and the system of corporate social responsibility of the U.S. In the end, Professor Banik elaborated the important meaning the CSR to the reduction of poverty and the development of the world.
After the lecture, professors from LEPP and Professor Banik held a profound discussion and exchanges.
