School of Education Successfully Held International Conference on the Quest for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Asia and Pacific Region

 

On the morning of October 28, 2010, International Conference on The Quest for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Asia and Pacific Region: Strategies and Responses of Higher Education, sponsored by the Chair of entrepreneurship education by Zhejiang University, Great China Research Center of Hong Kong Institute of Education, Scotch Education Research Centre of Zhejiang University, and Dr Venter Education Foundation, was held at 520 room in Tin Ka Ping Hall, Xixi Campus. The conference lasted for two days, and participants from seven countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, and Japan discussed with domestic experts and scholars issues such as the entrepreneurship education policy, higher education reform, and entrepreneurial university construction.

Zhang Xi, Party Secretary of Zhejiang University, Xu Xiaozhou, Executive Vice President of School of Education, ZJU, and Associate Vice President Mok Ka Ho from Hong Kong Institute of Education attended the opening ceremony and made important speeches. Xu Xiaozhou presided over the opening ceremony. This is the first international conference on entrepreneurship education since UNESCO approved of the establishment of entrepreneurship education chair in ZJU in February.

Zhang Xi pointed out in his speech that innovation is the soul of a country, and innovation and entrepreneurial activity has become a major guide to economic development. University should play a key role in personnel training and enhancing the capability of independent innovation.

Professor Xu Xiaozhou extended a warm welcome to the leaders and guests. He said it has been acknowledged by the world that entrepreneurial education plays an important part in world economic recovery. He also talked about the achievements of Zhejiang University in respect of innovation education.

The conference was divided into three parts: innovation and entrepreneurship education in the Asia Pacific region, outside the Asia Pacific region, and in China. The experts focused their discussion on innovation and entrepreneurship of government, innovative university development and reforms. In addition, the seminar will also hold round-table discussion on “The Journal of Asian Education and Development Studies”. It is believed that this symposium will further enhance the impact of Zhejiang University in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship education, strengthen the exchanges and cooperation with other well-known universities, and promote all around development of innovation and entrepreneurship education.
