On May 10, 2010, China-US Teacher Evaluation Forum was jointly held in Hangzhou by College of Education of Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Institute of Foreign Languages and College of Education of Seattle Pacific University. Professor Rick Eigenbrood, Dean of College of Education of Seattle Pacific University, Professor Arthur Ellis, other teachers and students from the three schools, and about one hundred headmasters from middle and primary schools attended the forum and carried out extensive discussions on the status quo and development trend of the evaluation system of Chinese and American teachers.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor LIU Li, Director of Institute of Curriculum and Instruction of College of Education, ZJU. Professor HONG Gang, Vice President of Zhejiang Institute of Foreign Languages first conveyed warm greeting towards American scholars, the present teachers and students and the headmasters. Professor Rick Eigenbrood made a speech in which he emphasized the significance of the teacher-evaluation system, delivered the wish for further friendship and cooperation with College of Education, ZJU and made a brief introduction to the achievements they have made in teacher evaluation reform in State of Washington. Professor LIU Zhengwei, Vice Dean of College of Education, ZJU, addressed that the forum could stir up some insights for the current education reform and the construction of evaluation system in China.
After the opining ceremony, Professor Arthur Ellis, Professor XIAO Yuanjun, from Zhejiang Institute of Foreign Languages, and LIU Hui, from Institute of Curriculum and Instruction, respectively delivered their presentations on “The New Trend in Teacher Evaluation”, “A Discussion about the Evaluation of Middle and Primary School Teachers” and “Changes in Teacher Evaluation against New Curriculum Reform”. Professor Daniel Ribera, ZHAO Tingting, President of Hangzhou Qingchun Education Group School, and YU Guodi, Headmaster of Hangzhou Wenchong Experimental School also carried out deep discussions upon various practical topics.
