Robert Johnson, The Chairman of INET Came To Visit And Held An Academic Lecture

 

On September 16 afternoon, Robert Johnson, the chairman of U.S. Institute for New Economic Thinking(INET) visited College of Economics. Professor Xianhai Huang, vice executive dean of College of Economics, professor Liuyong Yang, the vice dean, professor Yin Huang, Department of Finance, vice professor Deming Luo and doctor Xingguo Luo extended warm welcome to Johnson at the meeting room 418. Both sides reached a preliminary consensus after a lively discussion in the following topics. First, they proposed to hold summit theme at some interesting topics in Hangzhou. Both sides can participate in it to expand its influence. Second, they also proposed to found joint research centre for researching and training. Third, the guests encouraged scholars of Zhejiang University participate in the application of the subjects shared by INET and Young Scholars Program. Fourth, they hoped to hold Economic Day(similar to the Festival of Economics held annually in Trento, Italy by INET) when there are enough conditions. Both sides hoped to promote substantive cooperation activities actively based on a preliminary cooperation intentionmentioned above.

   In the morning, president Johnson held a lecture in meeting room 418, College of Economics. The theme of the lecture is “World economic tide of Chinese freestyle : new economic thinking required for transformation of China's social development in the 21st century”. The lecture which held by professor Yin Huang received a lively atmosphere and enthusiastically response. The audience asked questions actively in order to communicate with professor Johnson on China-America economic thinking way and research approach. During the lecture, Johnson also introduced the directions of research and consistent method of research scholars. The institute has many world-renowned economists whocommitted to exploring the new economic system in economic thinking in order to reduce possible financial crisis.

   Robert Johnson got his PhD and masters degree of economics in Princeton University. He got his bachelors degree of electrical engineering and economics at MIT. Now the chairman and executive director of Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) as well as the senior researcher and director of Global Financial Program held by Mrs. Roosevelt Institute in New York is professor Johnson, who responsible for managing the global emerging market currencies, bonds and equities portfolio. He is also a world-renowned economist and principal adviser to the World Economic Forum.
