In order to promote the subject construction of Faculty of Social Sciences, expand international exchanges and cooperation in the field of Social Sciences, speed up the process of internationalization of the social sciences, delegation of Faculty of Social Sciences, Zhejiang University, which leaded by professor Xunda Yu, the dean of research institute of FSS, and professor Shenghua Jia, vice dean of FSS, visited the University of Western Australia, University of Sydney, University of Melbourne, University of Canberra in Australia during August 18-26, 2013. This delegation was consisted of responsible members from College of Economics, College of Education, Guanghua Law School, School of Management and China Academy of West Region Department.
The University of Western Australia signed a memorandum of cooperation with Zhejiang University. Nowadays the cooperation between the two universities entered a substantive stage of development. On the morning of August 19th, Lain Watt, vice principle of University of Western Australia who responsible for international affairs, professor Krishna Sen, dean of Art , humanities and Social Science Faculty, professor Stuart Kaye, dean of law school show warm welcome to the guests as the main host. During the meeting, both sides introduced the general situation of the social science and training programs for teachers and students. Especially, the University of Western Australia introduced the development situation, the organization framework, operation mode and main fields and topics of the Ocean Research Institute to the delegation. Through the exchange, the delegation believed that both sides can launch mutual cooperation in the field of marine environmental protection, marine spatial planning and management, marine crisis assessment, disaster relief and management, marine archaeology, etc.
After the meeting, the delegation separated into four groups and joined the forum with responsible persons and professors from University of Western Australia separately. After fully discussion, both sides reached a number of cooperation in six aspects. The visit gained a great success.
On the morning of August 21st, the delegation visited School of Business, University of Melbourne. Vice dean Laura Bell and teacher Zhou Hui shown warm welcome to the delegation. And both sides made an appointment that discussion about cooperation between the two universities can gain a further progress when University of Melbourne come to visit School of Management, Zhejiang University on March, 2014. After the visit, they looked around the campus.
On the morning of August 22nd, the delegation visited University of Canberra, and received warm welcome extended by professor Maree Sainsbury, dean of Law School as well as the vice director of the Faculty. Both sides mainly discussed the probability of the exchange programs for post-graduates who majored in finance and accounting. Before the both sides reached an agreement about holding international conference together, they introduced the general situation and characteristic of their own university. The other side hope to visited College of Education, Zhejiang University on October this year. Moreover, they decided to sent 30 students to participate the international summer camp run by the College of Education in the summer of 2014.
And on the morning of August 23rd, the delegation visited University of Sydney. Vice principal Tyrone M Carlin and dean of School of Business David Grant attended the signing ceremony held in the office and extended warm welcome to the guests.
This exchange program with Australia expanded the scope of our cooperation with famous universities in Australia, promoted the development of scientific collaboration, exchange programs for teachers and post-graduates training.
