From October 24 to 25, 2010, former Dean of Harvard Business School, Professor Jay O. Light and his wife, accompanied by Zhang Xinsheng, Vice Minister of Ministry of Education, paid a visit to Zhejiang University and School of Management.

At noon of October 24, 2010, Professor Yang Wei, president of Zhejiang University, received Zhang Xinsheng, Vice Minister, and Professor Jay O. Light and his wife in the West Lake Guesthouse. They had enthusiastic talks on the development of ZJU, especially the development of business school, the experience and characteristics of American business schools, and cooperation between ZJU and Harvard University. Also present at the meeting were Hu Xuyang, deputy director of Zhejiang University, Professor He Lianzhen, Dean of School of International Studies, Professor Wu Xiaobo, executive vice president of School of Management, Professor YingBiao, party secretary of School of Management, and Professor Wei Longbao, vice president of School of Management.

On the afternoon of October 24, 2010, accompanied by President Yang Wei, Professor Light and his wife took a boat on the West Lake, and had a common feeling of quiet obscurity of West Lake in the rain. Professor Light listened with great interest the history of the West Lake in Hangzhou. They also discussed the history and the characteristics of School of Management, ZJU, and the relations between institute development and the economic and business environment.

On the evening of October 24, 2010, accompanied by Secretary Zhang Xi, Professor Light and his wife visited Xizi UHC. Wang Shuifu, chairman of Xizi UHC, warmly received the visiting guests. He told Professor Light the story of his own business, and described the mission and development strategy of Xizi UHC. Professor Light showed great interest in the history, development, strategy, and the chairman’s idea. The two sides agreed to jointly develop case of Xizi UHC.

In the morning of October 25, 2010, Professor Light and his wife visited the School of Management and its innovation management base. Professors and faculties from School of Management received the guests. Vice president Chen Ling introduced the recent development of School of Management, its schooling characteristics, goals, advanced disciplines, and international exchange and talent training. Associate professor Zheng Gang briefly introduced the research characteristics and international exchanges of the innovation management base. Professor Light was very impressed by the features and achievements of School of Management and the innovation management base. They also visited Zijingang Campus in the company of Professor Wei Longbao. Professor Light put forward some valuable and constructive suggestions on how to enhance the international competitiveness of School of Management, ZJU in conjunction with his years of teaching and management experience at Harvard Business School.
