Delegation from The University of Leeds Paid a Visit to School of Management, ZJU

 

On June 5, 2010, delegation from The University of Leeds, including Professor Jeremy Clegg from Center for International Business(CIBUL), Dr. Adam Cross, Director of the Centre for Chinese Business and Development, Dr. Hinrich Voss and Dr. Elizabeth Wang, and Dr. Tina Xu, from University of Hull, paid a visit to School of Management and carried out academic communications. Professor CHEN Ling, Vice Dean of School of Management met with the English friends and hosted the one-day exchange. 

 

CIBUL is the UK’s premier research centre in international business and has been independently recognized as being amongst the top two such centres in the world. It was also ranked ninth in the world for MBA teaching in international business by Financial Times in 2007. With the rapid economic development, China’s economic problems have attracted an increasing international attention, with China’s direct investment in European Union a rewarding research subject for CIBUL. In the morning, Dr. Adam Cross gave a lecture on “The Impact of Intellectual Property Rights Protection on the Choice between International Affiliate and Non-affiliate Licensing by U.S. firms: A Panel Data Study”, pointing out the importance of managing intellectual property rights in the extension of China’s private enterprises.

 

In the afternoon, Professor CHEN Ling first made an introduction to the development of private enterprises of Zhejiang Provinces, the disciplinary construction of School of Management, research focus and future prospect. Associate Professor DU Jian, from School of Management later introduced the developments of The National Innovation Base for Innovation Management and Sustainable Competitiveness Research, ZJU, and “Global Manufacturing and China”, a joint program between University of Cambridge and Zhejiang University. Besides, two Ph.D. students, DING Wanling and DONG Jiyang also introduced the research topics they are working on, such as the internationalization of China’s private enterprises, which stimulate a great interest among the foreign guests. In the night, Professor CHEN Ling held a dinner and discussed with the guests about disciplinary cooperation, scholars’ exchanges of visits and such.
