On the afternoon of May 20, 2010, Ceremony of Professor SONG Shunfeng being Lecture Professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Program of Zhejiang University and his academic lecture were held in conference room 408 of College of Economics, ZJU. The ceremony was hosted by Professor SHI Jinchuang, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences. Vice President WU Zhaohui attended the ceremony, as well as ZHU Xiaoyun, vice director of the Department of Personnel, JIN Xiangrong, administrative vice dean of College of Economics, JIANG Yuexiang, vice dean of College of Economics, DONG Xuebing, vice dean of China Academy of West Region Department, some teachers and students of College of Economics.
On the ceremony, Professor JIANG Xiangrong made an introduction to Professor SONG’s academic achievements and personal experiences, conveying warm greeting to his arrival. Vice President WU Zhaohui presented Letter of Employment and congratulated Professor SONG’s being Lecture Professor of Cheung Kong Scholars Program. He said that the development and support of Humanities and Social Sciences were indispensible to the course of building Zhejiang University into a world-top university and the employment of Professor SONG was a great honor to ZJU. He further pointed out that Professor SONG’ expertise in regional economics, transportation economics and industrial economics particularly corresponded to the problems China is faced with in its current economic and social development. He expected that Professor SONG could enhance the development of relevant disciplines of ZJU, cultivate top talents and make contribution to the construction of the country and the development of College of Economics. At last, Professor WU wished that more talented people could be introduced into ZJU.
Professor SONG made a brief speech of thanks and said that he would do his best in ZJU. Enjoying a high reputation in city economics, transportation economics and regional economics, Professor SONG has published 22 SSCI papers, mainly on Journal of Urban Economics, Economics Letters, Contemporary Economic Policy, China Economic Review, Urban Studies and such. After the ceremony, Professor SONG gave a lecture on “City Development: Experience and Lessons to be Learned from America”, which inspired a heated discussion among the participants.
